Adding a blog as part of your business can boost your customer base and your profits. A blog is more informal and personal way to share information about your business, but some businesses haven’t recognized that blogs are different from a business site. So here are few tips to create a better business blog:
- Write a letter, not a dissertation. You want the writing style of your blog posts to be more personal. Remember that you are talking to the visitor, like writing a letter to a friend. Give some good information, but be sure to leave things a bit open-ended, and ask the reader for their contributions. People like to be involved and will be happy to participate in the conversation.
- Stick to the point. You have to assume that your blog readers are busy. Give them simple, easily digestible points and information. Your blog posts should be 300 words or more for SEO purposes, but shouldn’t be longer than 500 words. If the posts are long and rambling, the reader may lose interest and go elsewhere for their information.
- Keep it simple. Avoid jargon, since some people will not understand it. Your sentences should be simply structured and easy to read. Don’t use a big word when a simple one serves the purpose. Of course, this may not apply if you are selling a technical product or service. Knowing your audience applies in this case.
- Make your posts easy to scan. A lot of readers are in a hurry. Use sub-headings, bold type, bullet points, and short paragraphs (no more than 4 or 5 lines) so your readers can get the gist of your post without having to read it word for word.
It will take some time to find your “blogging voice,” but once you get going, you will find blogging to be a fun task in building your business. Let us know your tips for building a better business blog.
