As you start out in creating your internet marketing business, there is some work to be done. You should already have your vision for where you want to take your business, so it’s time to move on to the next step – setting your goals. Let me make something clear: your vision is the big picture for your business, and your goals are the steps that you will take to make your vision a reality. Goals are the milestones that mark your progress and help you to stay focused on your mission of success.
There are some important requirements for goals. They have to be specific, attainable, and give a deadline for completion. For example, if you just write down that you want to make a million dollars with your internet marketing business, you are being too vague, and not giving yourself a chance to succeed. You have not outlined the steps you need to follow to make a million dollars. In other words, you are setting yourself up to fail. Some people have a tendency to do that, having a “victim mentality.” If they aren’t able to meet their goals, they blame it on being a victim of the times, with slumps in the economy or losses of capital income due to outside factors. But that isn’t what really happened.
What happened is that they did not create their goals for business with the rules intact. Maybe it’s your vision to make a million dollars, but your first goal is to make one thousand dollars in the first two months of business. That goal is more realistic and attainable, and has a deadline. If you fall just short of that deadline, keep striving for it. When you meet it, write a new one. Always keep a list of your goals in front of you to keep you inspired. When you see a deadline coming, you’ll harder to achieve that goal.
