Building Your Business Web Site

When you start your internet marketing business the first thing on your mind is building a web site.  It is a necessary part of your business, but it is not the only element of your business.  Simply building and publishing a website does mean that your business is complete.  That is only one of the first steps to take.  However, it is an important one.  Building your web site can be done in several ways, depending on your skills, time availability, and budget.  It’s also important to note that there is difference between a web page and a web site.  A web page is a single page that advertises your business, while a web site is a collection of web pages that advertises your business, displays your content, and makes your product catalog available.

  • Build your web site from scratch.  This is the option that takes some skill.  You have to have knowledge of web languages like HTML in order to put in all of the page codes you will need.  Of course, if you build the site from scratch, you are able to add SEO elements like meta tags and keyword headings.  In having the knowledge of HTML, you can also edit the pages easily.
  • Use a web authoring program.  Programs like Microsoft’s FrontPage always you to big build web pages in a visual mode, instead of an HTML mode.  In other words, you can see what the page will look like as you build it.  Such programs are WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get).
  • Use a template or site builder.  Some hosting services have free templates and site builders that can save you a lot of time, and they don’t require a lot of skill to use.
  • Use scripts or CMS.  There are programs like WordPress that are very versatile and customizable that can be used to create some great looking web sites.

You could always outsource to have someone else build and maintain your web site for you.  This would depend on the budget you have for the project.  Let us know how you built your web site.
