Some Rules in SEO Blogging

A blog is a great way to put your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) talents to work.  But there are some things that people forget about in posting to their blogs, making their content less than desirable to their readers.  It is important to remember that SEO should not be your total plan in internet marketing.  This applies to your blog as well.

  • Make sure you have the time and budget to post to your blog on a regular basis.  Having fresh content will keep your readers engaged, and they will be more likely to share a link with their friends and colleagues.
  • Avoid posting risqué content unless your brand can withstand the negativity that may follow.  Some brands and products are cut out for that niche, but if yours is not, don’t take the chance just to get web site hits.
  • Headlines should contain your keywords if possible.  That is how your readers will find you in searches.  Be sure that the keywords do not take away from the interest of the content.
  • Keep your posts unique.  Rewriting someone else’s work may slip past the search engines, but if readers can get the same information elsewhere, they probably will.
  • Your content should be short and straight to the point.  This is best for readers that scan content with a limited attention span.  If they see what they want in that scan, you are more likely to hold their attention.
  • A lot of readers love lists that are easy to comprehend.  For example, “Five Reasons Why…” or “The Top 10 Best……”  This makes it easy to see what they are looking for, being concise and providing factual information.

There are many ways to make your blog SEO friendly, while still providing the content that readers want.  Share some of your blogging tips that have been successful for you.
